About GoreVault

A home for horror fans who take the genre seriously -- built on structured scoring, community voice, and a genuine love of the gruesome.

Horror Deserves Better Criticism

Horror is one of cinema's oldest and most emotionally complex genres -- and one of its most consistently dismissed. Critics wave it off. Aggregators reduce it to a thumbs up or a percentage. Audiences are left with a single number and no real sense of what a film actually delivers.

GoreVault exists because horror fans deserve more than that. We built the GoreVault Index -- a weighted scoring system that breaks every film down across five dimensions that actually matter to horror audiences: Scare Factor, Story, Gore, Atmosphere, and Rewatch Value.

We publish editorial reviews alongside verified community verdicts, all using the same framework. Scores mean something here. Comparisons are honest. And every voice in the community is working from the same foundation.

"A percentage score tells you nothing. A 6.5 on Atmosphere and a 9.0 on Scare tells you everything."

Three Things Nobody Else Does
◆
Structured Scoring
Every film scored across five weighted categories. Not one opinion collapsed into a number -- a breakdown that shows exactly where a film lands and why.
◆
Editorial Voice
Our scores are not aggregated. They are a single, considered position -- written with conviction and standing behind a full review.
◆
Community Verdicts
Community reviewers use the same GVI framework. Every verdict is verified and structured -- not a star rating left by an anonymous account.
The GoreVault Manifesto
01
Horror is a serious art form. It explores death, trauma, and the limits of human endurance. It deserves the same critical attention as any other genre.
02
A score without context is just a number. We break every rating down so you understand not just how a film scored, but where it earned its marks and where it didn't.
03
Low scores aren't verdicts. A film that scores a 4.0 on the GVI isn't a failure -- it may simply excel in ways the formula doesn't fully capture. From Kubrick to Troma, every film finds its place in the Vault.
04
Community voice matters. The best horror criticism comes from people who live and breathe the genre. We build tools that give those voices structure.
05
The genre contains multitudes. Folk horror, body horror, slashers, creature features -- these are different experiences. We don't flatten them into one.
